“I am Divorcing my Object”

In a world where the act of purchasing and discarding objects has been reduced to a casual affair, this project looks to encourage reflection upon, or engagement with, our behaviors of mass- consumption and our relationships with the objects around us.

It uses design to construct a fictional world where the buying and discarding of objects are transformed into the forms of marriage and divorce, brought to life through designed products and a short film.

This is your invite to imagine.

Designed Products

While the narrative of the world focuses on buying (marriage) and discarding (divorce), the products fill the void in initiating a dialogue on using. Inspired by childhood activities like rock-stacking and see-saws, four common and often-tossed-around household objects have been deliberately redesigned to be challenging to use. Through the manipulation of form, centre of gravity, and balance, these objects only function when handled gently.
